Cuba Gooding Jr. does just that in an exclusive PEOPLE trailer for his directorial debut Bayou Caviar.
The actor, 50, plays former boxing champion Rodney Jones, who dreams of claiming victory in the ring of his dull life as a nightclub bouncer.
Despite his attempts to stay on a narrow path, he unconsciously gets dragged into business with the mob members after he has seen them murder his boss. Jones intends to shoot down a rival Mafia boss, but finds himself struggling with the consequences of life or death.
Gooding Jr. directs and stars in the film with Richard Dreyfuss and X-Men: Famke Janssen from The Last Stand. The Oscar-winning actor also co-wrote the screenplay with Eitan Gorlin.
