“We were attracted to this coming-of-age sci-fi thriller because of its emotional journey, its exceptional special effects and the opportunity to work with Jason Stone and the talented filmmaking team he has assembled,” said Nolan Gallagher, founder and CEO at Gravitas Ventures.
Stone adds: “It was a crazy adventure to make this movie and we could not be more excited to partner with Nolan and the entire Gravitas team to take it to the world.”
The film also stars Kate Burton, Saïd Taghmaoui and Percy Hynes White. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones is an executive producer and Chris Ferguson is the producer.
Gallagher de Gravitas Ventures negotiated the agreement with CAA Media Finance.
sci-fi movies do not have to be blockbuster hits with crazy CGI pieces and top celebrities, as long as you have an intriguing premise, interesting characters you can relate to, and (if you need them) some passable special effects.
The Chronicle of Josh Trank, the Midnight Special by Jeff Nichols, and even the next I Think We’re Alone by Reed Morano are all proof of this idea that less is more.
One more title that can be added to the list is At First Light, a movie that looks like an interesting mix of X-Men, Chronicle and Stranger Things. Written and directed by Jason Stone (The Calling), the film follows a young woman, Alex Lainey (played by Stefanie Scott), who acquires supernatural / psychokinetic abilities after encountering a collection of strange lights underwater. Whether these lights are alien or something completely different is part of the central mystery of the plot.

Of course, Alex can not be left alone with his new powers. There must always be some kind of shadowy government agency that wants to study and take advantage of what it has. In addition, it seems that his abilities emit radiation and can cause people around him to get sick, adding an E.T.-esque turn in the story.
Going back to the philosophy of less is more, you will not find important names in this movie, but that’s not a bad thing. Michael B. Jordan and Dane DeHaan were virtually unknown before Chronicle helped launch their A-List careers. The most important actor you will find in At First Light is Saïd Taghmaoui, whom you will recognize as Sameer of Wonder Woman.
First Light will premiere simultaneously in select theaters and VOD on September 28.
